Baked Beans


Homemade baked beans are so easy and so much better than the store bought version. They also freeze well if you want to save some for an impromptu barbecue! Enjoy.


INGREDIENTS

  • Bacon (center cut, one slice)

  • Great northern beans (15.5 oz can)

  • Cannellini beans (15.5 oz can)

  • Pinto beans (15.5 oz can)

  • Yellow onion (1)

  • Tomato sauce, lowest sugar and salt added option (1 cup)

  • Water (1 cup)

  • Dark brown sugar (1/2 cup)

  • Yellow mustard (1 tbsp)

  • Chili powder (1 tsp)

  • Course black pepper (1 tsp or to taste)

  • Salt (1 tsp or to taste)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Cook bacon in pan until brown. Then chop up and set aside.

  3. Finely dice onion. Add to the pan used for the bacon. Add olive oil if needed. Cook until onion is translucent and begins to brown. Set aside.

  4. Drain all beans and rinse. Add beans, bacon, and onion to large mixing bowl. Add tomato sauce, water, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, pepper, and salt. Combine well.

  5. Spray glass baking dish with olive oil spray. Pour bean mixture into dish.

  6. Bake for 45-60 minutes uncovered until bubbling and boiling. Stir. Then cover loosely with aluminum foil for an additional 30-45 minutes until thickened. Let cool briefly before eating. Enjoy!
